Cookies policy (extended version)

Wha are cookies?

Cookies consist of portions of code installed in the browser and they ensure excellent use of the website according to the purposes described. Some of the purposes for which the Cookies are installed may also require the User’s consent. Cookies, which are usually found in large numbers in users’ browsers and which at times can also remain there for long periods, are used for various purposes: to execute IT authentications, monitor sessions, store information on specific configurations regarding the users who access the server, etc.

What are the main types of cookies?

For the purposes of this provision, two types of cookies are identified: technical cookies and profiling cookies.

a. Technical cookies.

Technical cookies are used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary by the provider of the service of the information company explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such a service” (Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003).
They are not used for any other purpose and are normally installed by the website owner or operator. Technical cookies may be:

  • session or browsing cookies: they are necessary for the proper functioning and use of the website (e.g. purchases or accesses)
  • analytics cookies: they are similar to technical cookies whenever they are used directly by the website operator to collect aggregated information about the number of users and about how they use the site
  • functionality cookies: they allow the user to browse based on a set of selected criteria (for example, the language) in order to improve the service provided.

These cookies do not need the user’s consent.

b. Profiling cookies.

The purpose of Profiling Cookies is to create profiles concerning the user and they are used to deliver advertising relevant to the user by remembering his or her browsing preferences. Given the particularly invasive nature of these systems into the private lives of users, European and Italian legislation requires users to be properly informed about the use of these cookies and to express their valid consent to using them (Article 122 of the Privacy Code: “Storing information, or accessing information that is already stored, in the terminal equipment of a contracting party or user shall only be permitted on condition that the contracting party or user has given his or her consent after being informed in accordance with the simplified arrangements mentioned in Article 13, paragraph 3”).

Session and persistent cookies

Session Cookies contain information that is used in your current browser session. These cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Nothing is stored on your computer after you have finished using the website (ASP.NET_SessionId and language).

Persistent Cookies (like ASPXANONYMOUS) allow websites to remember you on subsequent visits and to adapt accordingly. They remain for as long as the website has programmed them to last (from a few minutes to a number of years).

First and third-party cookies

First-party cookies can be read by the site that created them.
Third-party cookies are created and can be read by domains other than the site and their data is stored with the third party.
