Grenache Day 2021: discover Cavazza’s Tai Rosso wines to celebrate it!

by Elisa Cavazza

Cavazza’s Tai wines, which have already won two gold medals, were awarded another prize and they are just perfect to celebrate the International Day dedicated to this outstanding grapevine.

Grenache, Garnacha, Cannonau, Alicante, Bordò: this is how we began our news focused on the gold medals we won in the 2021 edition of Grenache du Monde. This achievement was extremely important: not only for us Cavazzas, as a family and company, but for our entire territory as well as the DOC Colli Berici appellation!

We have always grown this varietal  ̶  which is none other than dear, old Grenache  ̶- with great enthusiasm and commitment. Wherever it grows, this grape is given a local name: just in Italy, it is known as Cannonau, Alicante, Granaccia Ligure, Bordò, Gamay Perugino and here, in the Vicenza area, as Tai Rosso. The DOC Vicenza Colli Berici Cavazza vineyards are planted on a plot situated on a sandstone and limestone karst hill, which is rich in iron, magnesium and potassium. Notably, the soil of the vineyard used to produce Corallo Tai Rosso Colli Berici Doc 2018 is characterized by the presence of fossils and corals. Millions of years ago these hills were a seabed and today the name of the wine is a tribute to this distant past, which we cherish. Our wine estate pays meticulous attention to its vineyards, manual harvest and subsequent hand-selection of the best bunches, which ensure a blackberry and raspberry scented, full-flavoured, polished, beautifully balanced and layered wine, also because the wine ages for about six months in French oak barriques. Important prizes have been given to our Corallo wine, such as the very recent ‘corona’, meaning crown, (top award) awarded by the Touring Club Italiano wine guide Vini Buoni d’Italia 2021.

For Cavazza, another excellent example of Tai Rosso is its Tai Rosso Colli Berici Doc 2020: a veritable expression of our territory, this time as a fresh, clean, versatile, modern pale red colored wine (as the local tradition dictates), showing all the well-known varietal aromas. Besides classic pairings with cheese or white meat, try serving it as an aperitif, just slightly cooler, at around 12°C.  It will amaze you!
